MANVAR

We left camp at 7 am via jeeps to visit another local village. This time a Brahmin village. They are Brahmin priests. The children are more aggressive and wanted nail polish, lipstick, and hand lotion. Only the boys go to school. The girls stay closer to home. In the heat of the afternoon we hung out and looked at our photos. Late afternoon we went to another village. This one was a Rajput caste village. In the evening we saw the music and dance performance again under the stars. No wifi at camp.

Overnight in the Manvar Camp.

JAISALMER-MANVAR

After breakfast we drove to Manvar, our "luxurious," permanent tents, located in the heart of the Thar Desert. Tents are very nice with front porch, and bathrooms with flush toilet, running water and electricity. It is very peaceful and quiet. Very sandy and very dry. In the late afternoon, we rode in jeeps to a very small, very rural "untouchable" village. The people were very friendly and invited us into their homes. Inside the women don't cover their faces but when men other than their husband are nearby they quickly put their veil in front of their face. Later that evening, back at our tent camp, we went to a fireside cultural dance performance. What a unique opportunity to enjoy Rajasthan's desert life, culture, wildlife and beauty!

JAISALMER

In the morning we did a sunrise shoot of the Jaisalmer Fort. I didn't expect to see people sleeping on the rooftops. As the sun rose they began to wake up. After breakfast, we toured the "living" fort where many people live and have shops. Later in the day we went to the desert village dunes of Khuri. We saw a local village with simple mud homes with earthen floors and no electricity or running water. Then we rode into the desert on camel back. We photographed silhouettes of the camels in the desert with the backdrop of the setting sun. It was an awesome experience! A very full day.

Overnight in the Hotel Taj Gateway Rawalkot in Jaisalmer.
