I arrived in Saigon around 10:30 pm by way of Dallas and
Tokyo after a 24-hour plus travel day. Met Erika and Bill (also in the group)
in the airport and we were transferred to MAJESTIC SAIGON HOTEL. Very nice
hotel built in the 20s with a rooftop terrace café and bar, right on the Saigon
River and in a nice area of town. “Town” has nearly 10 million people now and
is very modernized with gorgeous buildings, many from the old French colonial
era, as well as stunning new architectural towers, an opera house, and a
cathedral named Notre Dame which is the biggest cathedral in Asia. Some streets
are wide and planted with beautiful rows of palms, flowers, etc. One area has
luxury retail stores like Versace and Calvin Klein.
