This morning our local guide took us to another pagoda in Saigon. It’s
cool to see the people lighting license in honor of the dead. Then we went to a LOCAL
market. We didn’t see any tourists. They were selling rice, spices, fish,
fruit, chicken and parts of animals I had never seen. I got totally absorbed in
my photography and got lost and couldn’t find my way back to our meeting point.
Luckily Joel found me. We had lunch at a fantastic Pho restaurant (best I’ve
ever had!) before heading to the airport for our flight to Hoi An. Hoi An is a
small, charming well-preserved Southeast Asian trading port and UNESCO World
Heritage Site in Central Vietnam. After quickly refreshing we headed out about
6 pm to see the Full Moon Festival, which happens once a month, along the banks
of the Thu Bon River. All of the streetlights in town were turned off, and
colorful lanterns lined the bridge until there was some kind of power outage
and then all the lanterns went out. People buy small paper boats and light a
candle in them and float them down the river. It’s a very pretty site. We had a
great dinner at the Cargo Club. Overnight HOI AN HOTEL.
